What to Expect at the Le Thoronet Abbey
Abbaye Du Thoronet, along with Silvacane and Sénanque, is one of three Cistercian abbeys (certainly the oldest) to be built in Provence. Nestled among the oaks and isolated from the outside world, the abbey evokes a sense of serenity within, one that hardly bothers with inconsistencies in the real world. The place possesses a strong historical and spiritual identity, of which purity and simplicity are known to have inspired a generation of architects.
With your entry ticket, spend time wandering around at leisure and soaking in the austerity of perfectly preserved conventual buildings. As you stroll through the abbey complex, marvel at the well-preserved medieval architecture. Witness the massive arches donned with intricate stonework and serene cloister. Learn about the monument's history with an information booklet, available in 7 languages including English, French, Dutch, Spanish, German, Russian, and Italian.
