About Ancient Siam
Visit Ancient Siam, a one-of-a-kind outdoor museum, where you'll learn about the history and significance of Thai architecture and attractions such as Wat Chong Kham & Lan Chang Repository. Sounds interesting? Here's everything you need to know.
Ancient Siam is the world's largest outdoor museum, covering 320 hectares in area!
Lek Viriyaphant, the mastermind behind the Ancient City, initially wanted to build a golf-course shaped like Thailand, but changed his mind to this outdoor museum concept after he found the need to educate people on Thailand's history.
The entire area of the park is shaped to resemble Thailand, as seen on a map. Most of the structures are also placed quite close to their actual geographical location!
Though it is not spoken about as often, Ancient Siam has been around for quite some time now. The museum was constructed in 1963 and has been open to the public since 1972.
Why visit Ancient Siam?
Discover an offbeat spot near Bangkok
The Ancient City is only just now becoming a well known tourist attraction, so a lot of people don't hear about it until they do a ton of research. But visiting this outdoor museum is worth it to explore Thai architecture and landscapes, all within one attraction.
Experience South East Asia in a nutshell
While the museum is not large enough to cover all of South East Asia, you'll get to see replicas of monuments from Thailand (of course), Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. You might even be motivated to plan your next trip to one of these countries after seeing the mini-recreations.
A good alternative to sold out attractions
While the chances are quite low, in case you don't get tickets to visit attractions such as the Giant Swing or the Reclining Buddha, you can see a scaled down, accurate version at The Ancient City! But Ancient Siam is not just full of replicas, mind you; they also have several self designed structures that you won't find outside of the park.
