Confronting the past at Auschwitz-Birkenau
Your day begins with a comfortable hotel pick-up from Wroclaw. At Auschwitz, a licensed museum guide, proficient in English, French, Italian, or Portuguese, will lead you through the place that turned from a detention center of political prisoners into the symbol of Nazi oppression. In the 5 years of its existence, it claimed the lives of around 1.1 million. The barbed fences, prisoner barracks, crematoria, and gas chambers all paint a harrowing picture of camp life.
Honor the memory of the inmates
While the tour reveals the extent of human cruelty, it also reinforces the enormous resilience humans are capable of. Take a moment to pay respects to the victims and the survivors at the exhibitions where you can see furnishings from the rooms of the prisoners, and items that once belonged to Jewish deportees. Once the tour ends, you will be transported back to your Wroclaw hotel.
