American Son is a riveting and thrilling look at what it takes to care for the ones you love and presents an overarching look at who we are as a nation. The performances for American Son are scheduled to begin from October 6 at the Booth Theatre, which was recently home to The Boys in the Band, and opening night is set for November 4.
After winning the Laurents/Hatcher Award for Best New Play by an Emerging Playwright, American Son first got its world premiere at Barrington Stage Company in 2016. The show is playwright Christopher Demos-Brown’s Broadway debut and is directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. Leading the cast as the two distraught parents looking for their missing son are Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale. This talented pair are joined on stage by Eugene Lee and Jeremy Jordan, who round out the main cast. With a talented ensemble bringing the complicated characters of this story to life, you can expect a Broadway experience unlike anything you have ever seen before.
The Story of American Son
A story that is as timely as it’s life-like, American Son is set at a Florida police station in the middle of the night. The show begins with a mother’s frantic search for missing teenage son. She is joined at the police station by her husband, which is when the evening spirals out of control, and ends with an explosive finale. American Son is a gripping tale about who we are as a nation, and the themes of love, loss, identity, and family.
