Anastasia is one of the latest sensational shows to hit Broadway. “One of the most gorgeous shows in years! Luscious, lavish, and a joy that leaves you cheering. This is a grandiloquent feast for the senses you won’t soon forget” claims the New York Observer.
Besides featuring some of the classic compositions that were made famous in the 1997 movie, such as ‘Once Upon A December’, ‘Journey to the Past’ and ‘Paris Holds the Key’, the broadway show also features 16 new tracks which were written and composed by duo Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Directed by Tony Award winner for Best Direction of a Musical, Darko Tresnjak, the show promises to be inspiring and moving, leaving audiences at the edge of their seats from start to finish as they discover the nuances of the character and learn what it means to be royalty.
Anastasia Story
Set in the turbulent 1920s in the Russian Empire, the story follows the life of Anastasia, a brave young woman whose past is shrouded in mystery. The prologue highlights the close bond between Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna and her youngest grand daughter Anastasia, the latter receiving a special music box from the former. Years later, a Bolshevik party storms the palace killing the royal family in its entirety.
However, in the ensuing chaos Anastasia manages to escape. In the aftermath of the bloody revolution and the brutal overhaul of her family, Anastasia loses her memory of the event and starts a new life under the name of Anya. Unluckily, her past still haunts her as she becomes part of a conspiracy where she is made to act like the Duchess Anastasia, unaware that it is her original personality.
Now, pursued by ruthless Soviet officers who are trying to destroy her she enlists the aid of an ex-aristocrat. Will luck finally run out for Anastasia? Will she meet her grandmother? Will she ever be a princess? To find out, watch the latest Broadway sensation that is Anastasia.
