A three time Tony Award winning musical that is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, Avenue Q is more than just a comedy with puppets about a few twenty-somethings seeking their purpose in the big, bad city. Full of gut-busting humour and a timeless score, Avenue Q’s unique concept will sweep you off your feet with every issue it pinpoints. Music curators Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez who brought forth a memorable and delightful score for their musical, have won several accolades for their original concept.
The Story
The laughter riot begins with a recent college graduate named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment on Avenue Q. Soon, Princeton discovers that the residents are not all that nice after all. After realising that he’s not in an ordinary neighbourhood, Princeton and his newfound friends embark upon a journey where they struggle to find jobs, love, and their purpose in life.
Performance
Avenue Q has been on stage since 2003 in several productions around the world.
Awards
The show won the Tony Triple Crown, i.e., it won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of Musical and Best Original Score in the year 2004. It was also nominated for Outstanding Musical for the Drama Desk Award in 2003, and Best Musical Show Album for the Grammy Awards in 2005.
Avenue Q Reviews
“They may have no legs of their own, but darned if those fuzzy creatures aren’t still standing, long after more full-bodied competition has bitten the dust.”
- The New York Times
“It’s a real testament to how timeless this show is — the set and situation look just as current today as they did when the show first debuted a decade ago.”
- The Huffington Post
