She is supported on-stage by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher and Enrico Colantoni of Veronica Mars fame.

Toni-Leslie Jones has created the costumes and the set has been designed by Christine Jones. With a talented team both on and behind the stage, Birthday Candles is gearing up to be something truly special.
Birthday Candles: Broadway Story
Birthday Candles is the story of Ernestine. When the show opens, she is a 17-year old, helping her mother bake her birthday cake. Ernestine is decidedly rebellious and looks down upon what society considers normal. Her rebel phase dies its natural death and eventually gets married and has kids. It’s at this point if she considers how different her life would be had she chosen an alternative lifestyle.
The show employs a small bell on stage and with every clang, it jumps from one birthday to the next. To make the proceedings interesting, the timeline jumps are not always linear or equal; sometimes the story skips just a year and in another instance, a decade. Birthday Candles follows Ernestine as she grows and matures over more than eighty years, from her 17th birthday to her 101st. Watch the show to find out if Ernestine will succeed in her goal of ‘surprising God’ through a life well-lived?
