The Story
Chicago is a riveting tale of women brought to the limelight by the press, even though they were criminals. The story follows the life of Velma, who murders her husband, whom she finds cheating on her with her sister. Roxie, a nightclub dancer, also gets arrested for the murder of her lover. These two women meet each other in a jail cell. Velma finds her limelight stolen by the latest celebrity, Roxie. As Roxie’s trial date approaches, she tries every trick in the book to grab the press’s attention. She even steals Velma’s ideas leaving Velma feeling betrayed. The musical is a take on the fickle nature of the limelight and how the press makes criminals celebrities.
