About the Show
Based loosely on the life of several notable R&B singers in the US comes a story so powerful and raw that it has been bringing in one packed show after another since its West End debut. The musical made its debut in 1981 at the Imperial Theatre in Broadway, where it won six Tony Awards. The musical made its West End debut in 2016. With lyrics specially written for the West End production, Dreamgirls features songs that woo the audience and transport them back to the 1960s to the times of R&B and jazz.

The Story
Dreamgirls is a musical ride of three women who find love, fame, success, and more in their journey to becoming the topmost R&B singers in the US. It follows the journey of three women from Chicago, Illinois, who call themselves ‘The Dreamettes’. Their ups and downs, their challenges and their successes make the play great because it is an accurate portrayal of life and our expectations, and its meeting with reality. In a power packed play with wonderful songs and drama, Dreamgirls tells the story of three women who get catapulted into fame and how they deal with both the positives and negatives that come along with it.

Dreamgirls opened in Savoy Theatre in West End in February 2016 to rave reviews. It was nominated for five Olivier Awards in 2017, and won 2 - with Amber Riley picking up Best Actress in a Musical and Adam J Bernard picking up Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. It was also nominated for five WhatsOnStage Awards.
