About the Show
Premiering in October, Get Up, Stand Up! Is a musical based on the life of legendary musician, singer, and songwriter, Bob Marley. Renowned British playwright and actor Arinze Kene is all set to take up the role of Bob Marley. Kene is best known for his critically acclaimed one-man play, Misty, which earned him two Olivier Award nominations.
The new production has been adapted to the stage by award-winning director Clint Dyer, and playwright Lee Hall, best known for Billy Elliot The Musical. Lee Hall’s book takes inspiration from the very lyrics of Bob Marley’s best-known hits, and is all set to give the audience a peek into the iconic songwriter’s personal story.
The Story
The musical focuses on the story of Bob Marley, who is best known for putting reggae on the global radar. He was also responsible for uniting Jamaica in a time of civil unrest. The musical features some of his best hits, including ‘No Woman Can Cry’, ‘Exodus’, ‘3 Little Birds’, and ‘Get Up Stand Up’, in addition to many more! As one of the most influential icons of the 20th century, his catchy tunes continue to enrapture millions of people across the world.
