The Girl from the North Country is a musical inspired by legendary musician, Bob Dylan. Set in the 1930s to Dylan’s haunting music, this musical is a heartbreaking story about a family’s ordeals after the Great Depression. The show premiered in London at the Old Vic Theatre in July 2017. After a successful run, it moved to West End, The Public Theater in New York and the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
The Girl from the North Country was nominated for two WhatsOnStage Awards and won two Olivier Awards in 2018. Directed by celebrated playwright Conor McPherson, this musical is set to charm audiences at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway from 5 March 2020.

Marco Paguia, Simon Baker and Simon Hale bring Bob Dylan’s music to life as the soundtrack to this musical. The set and costumes have been designed by Rae Smith, while Mark Henderson manages lighting design for this Broadway musical.
Conor McPherson has won an Olivier Award for Girl from the North Country, The Night Alive and The Seafarer, along with a Drama Desk and Critics Circle Award.
Girl from the North Country: The Story
The musical is set in 1934, in Dylan’s hometown of Duluth, Minnesota. Watch as Dylan’s music beautifully intertwines with the Laine family’s troubles. who runs a boarding house, resulting in various characters coming in and out of their lives. Dr. Walker, the family physician, narrates their grim story as The Great Depression forces the Laine’s to foreclose their boarding house -- their only source of income.
Nick Laine is determined to save his family from homelessness. Each member of the Laine family struggles with their own problems; Mrs. Laine suffers from dementia that is becoming increasingly harder to manage; his adopted daughter is pregnant with the child of a man whose identity she carefully guards; his son is an aspiring writer suffering from alcoholism. When the Burkes, a widow Mrs. Neilsen, a bible salesman and a boxer seek shelter at the guesthouse one stormy night, the situation spirals out of control. What follows is a story of love, conflict and loss in a turbulent era.
