History Of Navy Planetarium Lisbon
The conception of the Navy Planetarium Lisbon began in the early 1960s, a dream-project initiated by Commander Conceição Silva and realized through a collaboration between the Portuguese Navy and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Designed by architect Frederico George, the construction commenced in 1963, leading up to its official inauguration in 1965 as the Calouste Gulbenkian Planetarium. The genius of this project lies in its grandeur, even today, this planetarium is one of the biggest in Europe, with a huge dome that is 23 meters wide and can seat 300 people.
