About the Show
‘The Nutcracker’ is originally a two-piece ballet with a score by the world-famous, Russian composer, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, based on the story by E.T.A Hoffmann ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ (actually based on the adapted version by Alexandre Dumas). Although the original production, performed in 1892, wasn’t a success, the show gained massive popularity since the late 1960’s and is now performed by a number of ballet companies all over the world.
This ballet performance, that takes place in London at the Royal Albert Hall and London Coliseum every Christmas, has wowed and amazed audiences since its very first show, with the 2017 edition being especially spectacular. Over a hundred dancers and musicians bring this wonderful story alive, with gorgeous costumes, phenomenal lighting and dazzling projections. If you want to take your family or loved ones out on Christmas for a special treat, look no further than ‘The Nutcracker’. It goes without saying ‘Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without The Nutcracker’.
The Story
‘The Nutcracker’ is based on Alexandre Dumas’ adapted version of ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’. It’s Christmas Eve and Clara and her family are hosting a huge family dinner. At this party, Clara’s godfather, Drosselmeyer arrives and leaves her a gift, a wooden nutcracker doll. Without Clara’s knowledge, Drosselmeyer mends the doll and puts a magical spell on it. Later that night, Clara goes down to check on her Christmas present and when the clock strikes 12, all the toys mysteriously come to life! Clara, along with her enchanted Nutcracker doll head out for a night of magical adventure where they encounter the evil Mouse King and meet a handsome stranger. When the air gets colder, Clara and her doll take a hot air balloon ride across London to the mysterious Land of Snow. Presented in beautiful song-and-dance sequences, ‘The Nutcracker’ is truly an enchanting and spellbinding experience.

London Coliseum
The London Coliseum or the Coliseum Theatre is one of London’s largest and most luxurious variety theatres. Built by architect Frank Matcham in 1904, this theatre, with a capacity of 2,359 seats is London’s largest theatre in terms of capacity, and interestingly enough, was the first theatre in Europe (at the time) to have lifts that took patrons to the upper levels. This theatre has not only been used for shows, but also for musical comedies, stage plays, opera and even as a cinema hall.
