Based on the 2001 cult classic, Scotland, PA is a brand new musical, which is set to premiere at the Roundabout Theatre Company's Off-Broadway stage in September 2019. Set for a limited engagement at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Center for Theatre, Scotland, PA is a deliciously dark, modern retelling of Shakespeare's classic, Macbeth. The 2001 film directed by Billy Morrissette thrilled and shocked the audiences with its true-to-life portrayal of human greed and the trappings of revenge, and this musical promises the same modern treatment to a classic story. The musical is scheduled to premiere on 23 October, 2019, and features some of the top names in show business. With an award-winning team of talented artists working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring the cult favorite to New York, you can expect a wickedly good time at the theatre and then some!
Scotland, PA : About The Show
Development for the musical was commissioned all the way back in 2009 by the Roundabout Theatre Company who picked award-winning American composer Adan Gwon for the task. Lonny Price, a famed American director, actor, and writer, has directed the musical. Price's credits include Sweeney Todd, Candide, Passion. For the former, Price won an Emmy Award. Josh Rhodes has choreographed the musical and Vadim Feichter has handled musical director duties. The acting talent associated with the production is equally top-notch, with Jeb Brown as Duncan, Jay Armstrong Johnson as Banko, Taylor Iman Jones as Pat, Lacretta as Mrs. Lenox and other actors filling out the remaining roles. Scotland, PA is scheduled to begin previews starting 14 September, 2019 with the official opening night set for 23 October 23, 2019.
Scotland, PA : Off-Broadway Story
Scotland, PA is a story we know all too well; Shakespeare's Macbeth which featured the downfall of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth who got a little too comfortable with the killing that came with fulfilling their own selfish goals. The musical takes this basic premise and gives it a deliciously dark modern twist. The show is set in a sleepy Pennsylvania town with a population of 1,203. The story follows a burger restaurant manager and his wife who hatch a decidedly evil plan to get ahead in life.
With each step on their way to the top, the couple loses a part of themselves and leave an increasingly bloody pile of bodies behind. The show puts the couple through the wringer to test just how far they'll go to fulfill their good old American dream. Prepare yourself for a stellar production of a classic tale that masterfully showcases the thrill of dark humor.
