Why visit the Seville Aquarium
Colorful marine life
Across five themed zones, you'll encounter a diverse array of marine life. From the awe-inspiring hammerhead and bull sharks to the delicate jellyfish, the aquarium showcases both vibrant and intimidating species. You'll also spot colorful creatures like mosaic fish, triggerfish, and lionfish, hailing from various corners of the globe.
Hands-on experiences, literally!
The Toca Toca experience at Seville Aquarium is a super cool interactive exhibit that lets you get up close and personal with marine life. It's perfect for kids (and kids at heart)! "Toca Toca" means "Touch Touch" in Spanish, and that's exactly what you get to do. You can safely touch amazing sea creatures like starfish, sea cucumbers, and sea urchins.
Pay homage to Ferdinand Magellan's expedition
The Seville Aquarium takes you on a journey inspired by Ferdinand Magellan's groundbreaking 1519 expedition — the first circumnavigation of Earth. You'll encounter marine ecosystems that mirror those Magellan and his crew saw on their adventure, from the local Guadalquivir River to the vast Atlantic Ocean and exotic Indo-Pacific waters.
Deepest shark tank
The shark tank at Seville Aquarium is a sight to behold! Plunging nine meters deep (that's about 30 feet), it's the deepest shark tank you'll find on the Iberian Peninsula. With a whopping 2 million liters of water, it features an underground glass tunnel where you can walk right beneath sharks, stingrays, and sea turtles.
Research and conservation focus
The Seville Aquarium does some serious scientific work too! They've teamed up with the University of Seville's Marine Biology Lab to study local ecosystems, especially the Guadalquivir River estuary. They are also knee-deep in conservation efforts, working hard to save endangered species.

The five zones of Seville Aquarium
1Guadalquivir River
Step into a world that mirrors the Guadalquivir's diverse habitats, from rushing waters to tranquil marshes. At 657 km, it's Andalusia's longest river. This zone isn't just pretty —it's a wake-up call about Andalusia's rich ecology and why we need to protect it. Don't miss the Adriatic Sturgeon. This big fish used to be abundant in European rivers back in the day. And keep an eye out for the Common Carp, a freshwater champ that can survive pretty much anywhere wet!
2 Atlantic Ocean
The Atlantic Ocean zone features the underwater world that spans from Andalusia's shores to the Canary Islands and South America's east coast. This vast ocean boasts diverse habitats —from sandy and rocky sea floors to lush seagrass meadows and deep-water coral reefs. You’ll see the Mosaic Strip fish with its eye-catching patterns, the uniquely-shaped Triggerfish, and the European Lobster —a culinary favorite that's just as fascinating to observe in its natural habitat.
3 Amazon Rainforest
Explore the lush world of the American tropics in this zone! The exhibits here are a slice of the Amazon with both aquatic and land dwellers. Keep your eyes peeled for the Green Anaconda — these massive snakes are among the biggest in the world! You'll also spot Green Iguanas, those prehistoric-looking lizards with their funky spines and long tails. And don't miss the Cuban Anoles; these little guys love to show off, basking on branches and flashing their colorful dewlaps.
4 Oceanarium
The Oceanarium is the highlight of Seville Aquarium, holding a whopping 2 million liters of water. It's a shark lover's paradise, featuring impressive species like Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, and Grey Reef Sharks. It’s not just about the toothy predators though! You’ll also spot majestic Sea Turtles swimming gracefully through the water. The tank is teeming with other marine life, too. Keep an eye out for massive Giant Groupers and ethereal Jellyfish floating by. Colorful reef fish dart around, adding splashes of vibrant hues to the underwater scene.
5 Indo-Pacific Ocean
The Indo-Pacific Ocean zone at Seville Aquarium is a vibrant slice of where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet. You’ll see mangroves and coral reefs along with a diverse array of marine life like Lionfish, Clownfish and Surgeonfish, all with their eye-popping colors and unique characteristics. The Barrigudo Horse, a fascinating species, adds to the exhibit's diversity.
