St. Paul’s Cathedral reopens to the public post coronavirus lockdown

The St Paul's Cathedral Reopening Date - 13th July 2020


With the lockdown period currently being at ease in London, several attractions including the St Paul's Cathedral reopened on 13th July 2020. At the same time, effective measures have been introduced by the venue to maintain maximum safety and hygiene within the Cathedral.

Safety Measures & New Rules at St Paul's Cathedral


To ensure maximum safety, it is mandatory for all guests to wear face masks in places of worship, including the Cathedral shop. It is necessary to maintain a safe distance of 2 meters from staff and other visitors.

For maximum hygiene within the venue, all areas will be frequently cleaned and sanitized extensively ensuring a safe and relaxed visit for all guests. Hand sanitizing stations have been installed at various points within the venue for guests to avail.

In order to avoid overcrowding at the venue, capacity has been significantly reduced. This includes limits on the number of people who can attend the services. Numbers are reduced inside the Dome route at any one time to allow safe 2 metre physical distancing. Visitors may be asked to queue to begin their Dome climb.

Multimedia guides will continue to be available at the venue. Each device will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each use. Headphones are available on site however, guests are welcome to bring their own with a 3.5mm jack. Alternatively, can also download the short tour Multimedia Guide app to play on their own Apple or Android device. It is available to download for free from Google Play and Apple App Store.

All guests are requested to not bring bags wherever possible. Small bags such as handbags or day packs are permissible and will be subject to bag searching. There are no cloakroom facilities available within the venue.

In line with the Government guidance, it is advised to not socialise indoors in groups of more than two households. Due to current physical distancing guidelines, the Golden Gallery is temporarily closed. The Whispering Gallery remains closed to the public until at least January 2021.

Though the ticketing office will remain open, it is strongly recommended to pre-book reservations online before arriving at the venue to guarantee entry to the Cathedral at your preferred time slot. This also applies for those with an existing valid Annual Pass, Friend of St Paul's membership, open dated ticket or other visit entitlement who will be able to make a free entry time slot reservation.

Due to safety reasons, only contactless payment will be accepted at the venue.

Entrance to the Cathedral is via the North West door with a separate exit door to ensure visitors can keep 2 metres (6 feet) apart at all times. Step free access is still available via the South Transept.

Sightseeing tickets will have a 30 minute entry timeslot ensuring a safe and relaxed arrival of visitors to the Cathedral.
