Zones in teamLab Planets
Water Area
Imagine wading through ankle-deep water, where with every step that you take, vibrant digital projections swirl and dance around you, creating a kaleidoscope of colors and patterns. The beautiful part of this interactive artwork is - you are not an audience to it, your movement is what is sparking a symphony of changes.
Exhibits in the Water Area include:
Drawing on the Water Surface created by the dance of Koi and People - Infinity
Step into the water, filled with digital koi fish, swimming and reacting to your every move. With every ripple you create, the koi turn into (seasonal) flowers and scatter. A surreal experience which continues to be drawn in real time by a computer program.
The Infinite Crystal Universe
A mind-dazzling experience created by the art technique ‘pointillism’, in which a collection of small, distinct dots are used to create a three-dimensional object. What’s interesting about this experience is that it is ever-changing and is constantly being created by the people moving through it, using their smartphones.
Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers
As you lay down, surrounded by a cascade of colorful flowers, gently drifting and swirling around you, you become one with your surroundings. The idea behind this artwork is that just as flowers are born, grow, bud bloom, and eventually scatter, wither, and die, so does your present moment. It’s profound, it’s unnerving and also gives you a sense of calmness that can’t be explained but needs to be experienced.
Expanding Three-dimensional Existence in Transforming Space - Flattening 3 Colors and 9 Blurred Colors:
Step into an experience where boundaries blur and dimensions shift as you walk through a space filled with spheres of light, pushing through them. The sphere changes color to emit a tone unique to its color. This causes the nearby spheres to respond radially, turning into the same color and emitting the same tone. Immerse and enjoy yourself in the dynamic interplay of light and space.
Ephemeral Solidified Light
Step onto a platform, surrounded by water, as you witness countless masses of light floating in the air. A mesmerizing dance between form and dissolution is how best to describe this experience in the Water Area; a metaphor to cherish every singular moment in this ephemeral world.
Waterfall of Light Particles at the Top of an Incline
Witness thousands of particles of light cascading down an incline, seemingly like a waterfall, illuminating the surrounding darkness. The glowing particles are the effect of shining light on the waterfall (water particles).
Soft Black Hole
Step into a swirling vortex of darkness, which is soft and gentle, causing you to sink into the depths, making you more aware of your body. The idea behind this experience is that the modern world provides us with solid surfaces, which results in us forgetting our bodies. But walking through this forest of darkness, sinking and resurfacing, makes you realize that we are all just a mass of bodies.
Garden Area
We’d like you to picture this: lush greenery, tranquil ponds, and vibrant blooms harmoniously coexist with cutting-edge technology. The Garden Area is where nature meets innovation in the most enchanting way possible! Take a stroll through winding paths, listening to the rustle of leaves and admiring larger-than-life-sized flowers, creating a symphony of colors, textures, and sounds.
Exhibits in the Garden Area include:
Floating Flower Garden
This garden is a space filled with over 13,000 flowers. The flowers in this exhibit are orchids and many members of the orchid family can grow without soil, instead absorbing moisture from the air. As you walk through the garden, each of your five senses are activated, which invites you to lose yourself in the flower garden.
Moss Garden of Resonating Microsoms
This is a moss garden filled with ovoids that change their color throughout the day. At sunrise, the ovoids reflect the world around them and at sunset, they shine on their own. The exhibit is interactive and transforms under the influence of the blowing wind, rain, and the behavior of the people, thus dissolving the boundaries of human and nature interactions.
Public Area
This is the area outside the museum, which is available to experience with or without an admission ticket.
Exhibits in the Public Area include:
Universe of Fire Particles Falling from the Sky
When you approach the exhibit with the ‘Distributed Fire’ app, the column of flame will ignite and this you can take back with you as a souvenir. And when you bring the flame close to another person’s smartphone, a similar flame lights up. The idea? Spread light in the world, one flame at a time.
One Stroke Bench
This is a bench made of a single piece of wood. It serves as a multi-functional furniture - a chair for sitting, a table for eating, and a chaise lounge for resting. The organic continuity of this wooden exhibit creates a landscape.

Visiting tips to teamLab Planets in Tokyo
- Book your tickets in advance as they’re often sold out.
- Entrance to the public area of teamLab Planets is free.
- Download the Teamlab app before visiting, so you can interact with the exhibits.
- Flash photography is strictly prohibited inside the museum, as it will destroy the appearance of the artworks (which use light) and diminish the experience for others.
- You will be walking barefoot within the museum. (Lockers are provided for you to store your valuables including socks)
- Certain areas/exhibits of the museum are mirrored (floor and walls), so if you’re wearing a skirt/dress, there’s a possibility of your underwear reflecting.
- Waiting time can vary between 30-60 minutes depending on the crowd and the exhibit.
- Once inside, take your time to see and experience each exhibit. Re-entry is not allowed.
- To get the best photos wear the color white. In a lot of the exhibits, projections change rapidly with colors and patterns, and these reflected on your white clothes will make for aesthetically beautiful photographs.
- Eat before your visit before food is not allowed inside the museum, not even snacks. If you’re planning to spend a long time inside (which we advise that you do), grab a bite beforehand.
