A musical adaptation of a multi-award winning movie of the same name, The Band's Visit is a musical composed by Tony Award winner David Yazbek and directed by David Cromer. Since its Off-Broadway premier in December 2016, the production has gone on to become a hit and has won several awards - 2017 Obie Award for Musical Theatre, Best Musical at the Outer Critics Circle Awards and the NY Drama Critics’ Circle Award. It also won ten awards at the 2018 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. A haunting musical set in the stunning Middle Eastern desert, the story of A Band's Visit beautifully explores music, its perception, and the human connections we have with it.
The Band's Visit: Story
Colonel Tewfiq Zakaria and his band of the Egyptian Alexandria Ceremonial Police Band have just arrived in Israel to perfrom at the inauguration of an Arab Cultural Center in Petah Tikvah. However, a mix-up at the border sees them arrive at Bet Hatikva instead, leaving them stranded for the evening with no place to stay and no bus until the next morning. The members of the band are left helpless with no choice but to seek shelter with the locals. What follows in a day of strangers living together is a wonderful story of human bonding and relationships. While the band initially views their predicament as unfortunate, they quickly realize their mishap was, indeed, a blessing in disguise.

Reviews
“The Band’s Visit is gentle, soulful, tuneful and the best musical on Broadway. ‘Beautiful’ is a word we bandy about in the daily pursuit of adjectives to describe the things we love. But even in an entertainment world overrun with superlatives, this is the one you’re compelled to use to describe The Band’s Visit.”
– The Washington Post
“The Band’s Visit is a ravishing musical that whispers with romance. With songs by David Yazbek and a script by Itamar Moses, this Broadway rarity is seldom found these days. An honest-to-God musical for grown-ups, it is not a work to be punctuated with rowdy cheers and foot-stomping ovations, despite the uncanny virtuosity of Mr. Yazbek’s benchmark score.”
– The New York Times
