About the Show
The winner of 2003 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, is back with a West End revival that will both amuse and shock you. Written by celebrated British-Irish playwright, Martin McDonagh, the play was originally produced in 2001, and ran to packed houses at the Garrick Theatre. The production is now playing at the Noël Coward Theatre and has received rave reviews from audiences. This 2018 revival continues to draw in the crowds and has won admirers in critics as well, both for the acting chops of Aidan Turner and the production values.
The Story
Padraic is a ‘mad leader’ of a splinter group Irish National Liberation Army, which is embroiled in the Northern Ireland Peace Process. The eccentric Padraic is inherently violent and cares for only one thing in his life, his pet cat ‘Wee Thomas.’ But his only love is soon taken away from him as his father informs him of the cat’s ill-health. Padraic then moves to his family home where he comes to terms with the death of his cat and is now bloodthirsty for revenge. With shocking stage effects, the play creates a sense of impending doom and gory squeamishness.
