Bringing together factory management and trade unions in the 1950s was no mean feat! But, it becomes easy when they bond over a common enemy – the end of their livelihood. The Man in the White Suit is a play adapted to the stage by Sean Foley and is based on a 1951 film of the same name by Ealing Studios. The play follows the journey of Sidney Stratton and his invention of a white fabric that never wears. The subject of the play finds relevance even today as corporate greed is under the scanner for not taking decisions for the common good. Sean is known for his comedic treatment with a mix of slapstick and great dialogue. Don’t miss ‘The Man in the White Suit’ coming to Wyndham's Theatre this September!

The Story
The play ‘The Man in the White Suit’ is set in 1950s North England and is based on the life of a chemist ‘Sidney Stratton.’ He is young and eager to develop a revolutionary fabric that lasts forever. His quest for the material has led to his dismissal from multiple textile factories as he demands expensive facilities and a crazy idea to pursue a unicorn! Eventually, while working in the Bimley Mill, he accidentally invents a fabric that repels dirt and never wears out.
Sidney is heralded as a genius until the factory management and employee unions both realize that customers will buy the fabric and once their demand is met, they will stop buying anymore! The management then tries to buy the rights to his invention, but he doesn’t budge. Leaving them no other option, the management and unions both run after Sidney, who is wearing the bright white suit that repels dust and glows with radioactive elements. Watch the play to find out if Sidney escapes the mob and if his invention sees the light of the day.
