About the Show
Based on the novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman, The Ocean at the End of the Lane first premiered at the National Theatre in 2019. It received 3 Olivier Award nominations, going on to win the award for Best Lighting. The 2019 production went on to receive critical acclaim, with WhatsOnStage, SFX Magazine, Sunday Times, and The Telegraph giving it 5-star reviews. Katy Rudd returns as the director of this show, along with Lighting Director Paule Constable.
Following a sell-out run at the National Theatre, The Ocean at the End of the Lane is all set to return to the stage, at West End’s Duke of York’s Theatre.
The Story
The protagonist returns to his childhood hometown for a funeral. He visits the home in which he and his sister grew up, a farmhouse in Sussex. He remembers a young girl, Lettie Hemptsock, who had once claimed that the pond next to her house was actually an ocean. He suddenly remembers the treacherous events that occurred on his 12th birthday.
Suddenly plunged into an unfamiliar and magical world, their survival depends on their instinct, memory of the past, and bravery in the face of powerful and ancient forces.
