Mary-Louise Parker headlines The Sound Inside on Broadway!

Mary-Louise Parker has revealed that she wasn't sure about starring in The Sound Inside on Broadway but has since come around to embrace it.

On The Today Show, she said that she was initially of the opinion that she wasn’t the right person for the show. Mary-Louise Parker likes stepping out of her comfort zone and being reminded that she is not the best judge of her own abilities. It was on one of her walks with her dog that she finally decided to give it a whirl. Mary-Louise Parker said that she found the writing “compelling”. She also joked that the show’s themes are so dark that the audience and performers will need a flashlight. Mary-Louise Parker had previously revealed that she belongs in shows with dark themes, which explains why she chose this Adam Rapp thriller to make her Broadway return. She had previously turned this Studio 54 production down for the Williamstown Theatre Festival premiere.

The Sound Inside places a mentally organized, discipline-loving, self-aware professor Bella Baird at the center of its premise. She knows where she fits into the society and never encourages any illusions about herself. However, her glass fortress is shattered when a student, Christopher, challenges her notions about her life. As their relationship grows dangerously intense, Bella is faced with the question she never thought she’d ask: was she living her life with all the wrong convictions? The former Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner is playing the lead role opposite Will Hochman, who has owned this role since the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Mary-Louise Parker has raved about her co-star’s humility and support during the days leading up to September 14, when the previews began. She has also commended Adam Rapp for using his talent to churn out something so beautiful, yet so dark. Mary-Louise Parker claimed that it has been quite difficult and challenging to bring out her character to a live audience, but seeing them connect to the drama is motivating for her and the rest of the crew of The Sound Inside on Broadway.
