The Shubert Theatre is showcasing To Kill a Mockingbird on Broadway, presently in its second year after a ravishing first.
The timeless classic by Harper Lee continues to make waves on Broadway. Based on the popular novel, the adaptation will feature the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell. Penned by Aaron Sorkin, who is best known for his masterpieces on stage and reel alike, the play will be a memory play, with Jean Louise ‘Scout’ Finch probing the memories of her childhood to dig more about what really happened in her past. To Kill a Mockingbird was greeted with astounding success in the past as a novel, and it has never been out of stock ever since. Today, a global phenomenon, the book has sold over 50 million copies in print to date.
Inspired by Harper Lee’s childhood, the play will witness Jeff Daniels of The Newsroom fame playing the role of Atticus Finch. Apart from him, Australian actor Eliza Scanlen will be seen charming the audience by playing the accuser — Mayella Ewell, and we will also see LisaGay Hamilton laying Calpurnia, the Finch’s faithful housekeeper along her side. With Nina Grollman, playing Scout and Taylor Trensch playing Dill Harris, the sparkling new star cast is all set to take the audience by storm.

The existing cast will play its final performance on November 3. A national tour has been announced, starting in August 2020 — featuring Tony award nominee Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch. Earlier, the play was nominated for nine Tony awards, including Best Direction of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Play for Miriam Buether, Best Costume Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, Best Sound Design of a Play, Best Performance By an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Performance By an Actor, Best Original Score and Best Performance By an Actress in a Featured Role.
