Broadway’s hit musical Wicked, with its 6681st performance on 28th October, has now become the fifth longest-running production in Broadway history, beating Les Miserables. The musical also celebrated its 16th anniversary on 30th October, after having performed in over a hundred cities in several countries, and even being translated into six languages. Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, in which the story explores what happened in the Land of Oz from a different angle.
Long before Dorothy’s time, lived another girl born with emerald-green skin. She is smart, fiery, and misunderstood with an extraordinary talent. She meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular. Their initial rivalry blossoms into the unlikeliest of friendships, until the world labels one “good,” and the other one “wicked.” With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular”, and “For Good,” Wicked has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.”
The Broadway cast currently includes Hannah Corneau as Elphaba, Ginna Claire Mason as Glinda, Nancy Opel as Madame Morrible, Michael McCormick as The Wizard, Jake Boyd as Fiyero, Riley Costello as Boq, Jamie Jackson as Doctor Dillamond, and Gizel Jiménez as Nessarose. Based on the novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire, the show has been adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
