Why Watch The Lighting Thief
Why Watch The Lighting Thief
Based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is a spectacular coming-of-age tale that weaves itself around fantasies and myths. This musical adaptation features a book by Joe Tracz, author of Be More Chill, and original music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki, who is making his Broadway debut. Director Stephen Brackett couples a hero's quest with a shocking twist, providing elements in the direction that both adults and children can relate to. Seven actors portray nearly 50 roles, showcasing their talent of switching between roles in effortless fashion. The Percy Jackson Musical blatantly caters to the rebellious phase that angsty teenagers often undergo, and is a spectacularly fun adventure that will thrill everyone who watches it.
The Story
Troubled teen Percy Jackson discovers he’s a demigod. As a son of the Greek God, Poseidon, he harbors great power within; power that often does not remain under his control. The story revolves around Percy and a couple of his new half-blood friends who embark on a mystical quest to prevent an all-out war from rupturing between the great Greek Gods of Mount Olympus, and also to rescue Percy’s mom from the all-fearing God of Death, Hades. The lighting God Zeus has lost his lightning bolt, and his fury can trample all mankind, not unless these demigods find the real thief and set right to the wrong.
The Lighting Thief is an episodic adventure that sees a lot of legendary mythical beasts and creatures on the way, the likes of Medusa and Erinyes, but underneath all the fantasy lies a simple coming-of-age tale about growing up and finding your place in the world.
