Why You Should Watch The Minutes
Why You Should Watch The Minutes
In Tracy Letts’ poignant and satirical peek into the workings of a typical American small-town council, the dangers of bigoted and ignorant politicians in power are beautifully brought to the fore. When Mr Peel joins the council as a freshly elected public servant, he is baffled by the functioning of the decrepit council. What begins as a simple argument about missing bicycles and a parking spot quickly turns sour. One ugly revelation leads to another, and the council morphs into a battlefield.
Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, actor, and screenwriter Tracy Letts’ The Minutes serve as a direct analogue to today’s ruthless political debates and propaganda surrounding the underlying narrative of America. From the senile Mr Oldfield, the longest-serving member of the council, to the unrefined and heartless Mr Breeding, every character in the play embodies a political trope that can be seen in the real world. With top-notch direction by Anna Shapiro and a star-studded cast consisting of Jessie Mueller, Armie Hammer, and Tracy Letts himself, The Minutes is set to be a resounding success in New York this season!
