The guide(s) and bus driver were all great! Chambord was absolutely stunning, though the castle itself is mostly empty, with the exceptions of faux deer heads representing the history and hunting prowess of Francis I, modern art installations, and a reproduction of the theater; it allows you to focus on the building itself. Amboise was very cool, much smaller and more homey, with more in the way of historical storytelling in the exhibits compared to Chambord, and some exceptional views of the Loire; but the town might be even better than the castle. You won't be bored if you skip the castle tour. Personally, Orléans was the only part I could have done without. The Orleans visit focused on two sites: the Cathedral, and "home" of Jeanne d'Arc. While I thought the message of the visit was on point, it also felt overwhelming and rushed after such a long day. Photos are all from ChambordMarjorie

Visiting the castles without any hassles once we got there was good. Showed my ticket and was let in. I enjoy visiting places on my own pace. The tickets provided me with that. The castles are beautiful!Anna-lisa

Both Chateaux were fabulous. Can't recommend visiting them more. Just leave a bough time. Ticketing was quick and easy, although at Chenanceau we had to see the ticketing booth rather than go straight through. Seemed to be a recent change in the process. Easy enough to do at that time of year.Patricia

Château de Chambord
King François I built the Château de Chambord after his victory in the Battle of Marignan in 1515. The castle is located inside an enormous park of 5,000 hectares and contains about 400 rooms, over 80 staircases, 365 fireplaces, and plenty of towers, high ceilings, and pointed domes. A must-see attraction here is the double helix staircase. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, the open staircase is designed such that you can go up one side without meeting or making eye contact with someone who is descending on the other side! Use your ticket to see the over 60 rooms open to the public, as well as temporary exhibitions (according to the cultural program of the time). Later, explore the castle's grand gardens, home to beautiful flora and fauna, at your own pace.
Château du Clos Lucé
The Château du Clos Lucé, was built in 1941 and stands in all its Renaissance glory, decorated royally on the inside. The Château is most popularly known for being Leonardo da Vinci’s last home. With the invitation of Francis I, da Vinci moved into the royal french residence in 1516 and went on to spend the last three years of his life here. Besides a splendid collection of art and sculptures, the Château boasts a wide display of the Italian Maestro’s best inventions. See the articulated glider, The Tank, The Catapult, The Mechanical Drum, and more. Learn all about da Vinci's inspirations and little secrets, at your own pace! Wrap up your self-guided tour with leisure time at the lush park and gardens.
Château Royal d'Amboise
Visit the Royal Castle of Amboise, a stunning castle on the banks of the Loire river. The architecture is a classic representation of late Gothic and early Renaissance architecture and will leave you in awe. Learn about the kings who reigned from the castle, as well as the other members of the French court and artists who were invited to stay in the medieval fortress. One of the most notable guests at the Amboise Castle was Leonardo da Vinci, who you can pay respects to in the castle’s chapel, where he lies to rest. Try the AR HistoPad© that lets you immerse yourself in historical atmospheres: royal audiences and banquets, the seat of the ramparts and battle, construction sites, diving into the jails...the journey is open to all!
