An invaluable example of romanesque art, admire the various artistic masterpieces dated back to the 1200s kept inside the Cathedral such as the five polychrome sculptures carved out of wood portraying the ‘Deposition of Christ from the Cross’. Next, head to the Baptistery in front of the Duomo of Volterra. The Baptistery of San Giovanni is an octagonal 13th-century religious building. Marvel at the façade that is decorated with horizontal bands of white and dark green marble.

Admire the Ancient Civil Hospital of Santa Maria Maddalena

This is a Roman structure, possibly a cistern in the Piazza San Giovanni. Currently, the Civil Hospital of Santa Maria Maddalena is a study Center equipped for conferences and an exhibition center where donations of works of art are also kept by artists from Italy.
