Your Experience
Following a pick-up from your hotel, you will journey through the heart of Morocco’s oldest imperial city - Marrakesh. Visit Koutoubia Mosque, decorated with curved windows, a ceramic strip, pointed merlons, and decorative arches. See the marvelous burial ground of Saadian Tombs, the largest Islamic place of worship in Marrakesh, and explore the 19th-century Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Morrocan architecture and Islamic arts which took 1,000 odd craftsmen from Fez a matter of seven long years to build. To gather a more intimate understanding of Marrakesh, head into the souks of Marrakesh’s old Medina, and explore its intricate maze of narrow alleyways wherein lie a variety of quarters protected from the sun by slatted awnings and established by local craftsmen according to a structured system of corporation. You will also find apothecary stalls, all of which will provide you with numerous haggling opportunities.
Next, you will visit the famous Djemaa El Fna square. The heart of Marrakesh is a traditional meeting place for peasants and merchants from the Sous region, the High Atlas, and the South. By day, most of the square is just a big open space full of spice vendors, guerrab with their leather water bottles, basket sellers, ironmongers, and barbers. In the late afternoons, however, this square is transformed into a carnival of storytellers, acrobats, musicians, entertainers, and performing monkeys!
