What is Mamma Mia Dubai
Mamma Mia is a smash-hit musical that debuted at West End in 1999. It was met with critical acclaim on its release and quickly became a crowd favorite.
Mamma Mia is based on the songs of the world-famous Swedish pop group ABBA. The name is taken from the group’s chart-topping single, ‘Mamma Mia’. ABBA composers Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were involved in the development of the original West End show right from the beginning. Producer Judy Craymer met songwriters of Anderssen and Ulvaeus in 1983, before finally commissioning Catherine Johnson to write the book, and Phyllida Lloyd to direct the first show.
Why Watch Mamma Mia Dubai
Since its debut in 1999, over 65 million people have watched Mamma Mia, with the show has grossed $4 billion cumulatively. It is the 7th longest-running show in West End history, in addition to having featured in over 50 productions across the world. The show debuted on Broadway in 2001 and ran until September 2015, which made it the 8th longest-running show in Broadway history. The show has been celebrated for its feminist undertones, with strong female protagonists. This is the first time Mamma Mia will be opening at the Dubai Opera in celebration of the 22 years since the musical first premiered on London's West End.
Expect to listen to some of ABBA’s best-known hits, such as ‘Take a Chance on Me’, ‘Lay All Your Love on Me’, ‘Super Trouper’, ‘Money, Money, Money, and of course, ‘Mamma Mia’. The original show was also nominated for the 2002 Grammy Awards, for the Best Musical theater album, and for Best New Musical at the 2000 Laurence Olivier Awards.
