Your Experience

Enjoy a scenic flight over the Southern Alps in this once-in-a-lifetime helicopter experience over the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. Start your adventure at the helicopter base in Fox Glacier Township, and meet your expert pilot. Once you take off, marvel at the spectacular panoramic views over the town and surrounding landscapes. You'll spend 30 minutes flying in a comfortable helicopter ride over the region.

You'll get a chance to admire the sprawling ice arches, the Chancellor Dome region, and the ice trekking trails of the Fox Glacier. While riding above the steeper Franz Glacier, you'll see parts of the glacier that are usually inaccessible to hikers. The rugged beauty of its waterfalls and unique rock formations will leave you in awe. Your tour guide will explain how it is the steepest and fastest moving glacier in New Zealand.

Know Before You Go

Important Information

Ensure that you bring along sunglasses and sunscreen.
Wear outdoor clothing suitable for the snow, and covered shoes (sneakers or trainers are fine) or hiking boots.
You can bring your personal camera or GoPro.
Ensure that you have enough storage space on your memory card and/or phone for photographs.
It is suggested to leave your bags and other valuable belongings (e.g. passport and wallet) at the operator’s office or inside your car.
Please note that the availability, route, and length of your scenic flight will be dependent on weather conditions on the day.
It is illegal to use drones in the area, so please leave yours in the car if you have one.
Selfie sticks are not allowed to use in the helicopter.
Please note that passengers are not allowed to use iPads to take photos during flights as they can impede the view of the pilot and other passengers.
