The tour of Herculaneum was brilliant and the guide, Danilo, was very knowledgeable. My only gripe may have been my own fault. I followed the directions in the email, thinking that was to the meeting point, wrong, it was to the backdoor of the Archeology Unit. On re-reading the email I found a second set of directions to the meeting point. My wife was not impressed with my navigating.

Everything was wonderful! The guide was very informative and entertaining. The only thing I would suggest is changing the picture of where to meet in case our others were literal like us. :)

The guide, Mr Leone, made it very interesting through comparisons between Herculaneum and Pompeii and through his own personal research and documentation which he shared with the group.

Excellent guide! Very patient with all on the tour, extremely so with a young man who had developmental delays. Knowledgeable, yet not unnecessarily wordy or detailed in his explanations. Danilo was well paced in his delivery as well as his movement from location to location. Easy to listen to, easy to follow.

Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Our check in person was fun and friendly. Sarah, our guide was wonderful! Very personable, and SO knowledgeable. She made the tour interesting and fun. She was patient, answered everyone's questions, and provided a great perspective on the life and lifestyle of this ancient city. We would give this 10 stars if we could! Discovering the ruins and the Romans

The Herculaneum Archaeological Park is one of the best-preserved sites in the world. Finding out interesting stories of this site and how the 4000-5000 inhabitants lived here, is going to be a treat for you on this 2-hour guided tour. Visit this UNESCO World Heritage site with your skip-the-line access which has survived a disruptive earthquake and a deadly eruption. Get to know more about how Herculaneum was affected while being at its peak owing to its coastal location. It brought Rome’s patrician families to its resorts for exploring a relaxing. You will get a fair understanding of how the city was slowly gaining life by being renovated, till the terrible eruption of Mount Vesuvius happened, wiping out its inhabitants. All that you will see in 2 hours was once buried under ash and volcanic rocks 16-meter deep.

Digging deep

Explore the site a bit more in detail with your archeological guide with an upgrade. Delve into the different sections of the city like the men’s baths, Hall of the Augustals, Samnite House, and House of the Wooden Partition that withstood the eruption. Even the Fornici, where 300 skeletons, along with personal objects like purses, coins, swords, chisel, and so on is a noteworthy site.

It is recommended that you wear comfortable walking shoes to hustle through the rocky paths of the site.
Pack light snacks as there are no cafes inside, except at the entrance.
Carry along a water bottle, sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen.

Large backpacks are not allowed.
Eating/drinking within the premises isn’t allowed. Please visit the designated picnic area for the same.
Tripods and selfie sticks are not permitted within the excavation site.

An infant backpack/carrier is recommended for infants.
Service animals are allowed to enter the excavation site.
