Det var virkelig en oplevelse, man kun får én gang i livet! Det var en fantastisk kombination af adrenalinsus, interessant lokal og kulturel viden og forundring over den naturlige verden. Excellent tour with excellent guides Hannah and Katie. Despite being in our sixties and a little nervous ( although reasonably fit) we had a great afternoon. The guides explained everything and were attentive and watchful and we felt in safe competent hands. The highlight was floating through the black caves seeing the vivid glowworm show above us.

Briefing

Receive a safety briefing and learn the ropes of abseiling and tubing from an experienced guide before you enter the Waitomo Caves.

Abseiling

Slide down a rope and a device that lets you adjust your speed as you go down 35 meters into the cave. Your guides will keep an eye on you and ensure your safety at all times. Marvel at the streams that run through the cave system. Embrace the thrill of lowering yourself into the dark and discovering a new world.

Zip lining

At the bottom of the abseil, take a one-way zip through the dark cave, surrounded by thousands of glow worms. The ceiling is decorated with stalactites, stalagmites, and helicities that will dazzle you. This is a fun and magical experience that you will always remember.

Snack break

After the one-way zip line, you will have a short break to enjoy some snacks and drinks from your guides.

Tubing

Next, grab a rubber tube and jump into the water. Float along the underground river, under a canopy of glow worms, and through some rapids. You can also opt to jump off a ledge into the water.

Climbing

Finally, leave your tube and climb over rocks and up waterfalls, using your wetsuit’s buoyancy and your guides’ help. Explore different parts of the cave and see more amazing formations and features. Feel the adventure and the achievement as you master the cave.

Return

You will then leave the cave, take a hot shower, and change into dry clothes. Feel free to enjoy a meal at the restaurant or cafe, or shop for some souvenirs at your own cost at Waitomo Homestead.

What to bring

Bring your towel, swimwear, shower gel, and shampoo for the adventure.

When you visit, make sure you've got a credit card or your phone set up for contactless payments (like Apple Pay or Google Pay).

What's not allowed

The following are not allowed in this experience: Camera equipment, tripod, selfie sticks, and GoPro.

Guests aged under 16 years are restricted from participating in this experience.

Guests weighing under 45kg are restricted from participating in this experience.

Accessibility

The experience is not accessible for wheelchair users, pram/stroller users, people with mobility issues, people with back and neck problems, and guests who don't have a moderate fitness level or are too small.

This experience operates only with a minimum of 2 guests.

Facilities: Lockers, Changing Rooms, Hot showers.

No prior caving experience is needed.

You do need to be comfortable in the water, however, swimming is not a necessity. You will have a floating tube and expert guides.

Your guide will take photos of you on your tour and email them to you afterward.

Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.

Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the meeting point.

Please arrive at the meeting point 30 minutes before the scheduled time of your tour to avoid any delays.
