Baunei is a small town located in the province of Nuoro, on the eastern coast of Sardinia, Italy. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers, as it is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes that offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, trekking, and exploring. One of the most popular activities in Baunei is trekking to Cala Luna, a beautiful beach located in the territories of Dorgali. The trek to Cala Luna is a relatively easy hike that takes about two and a half hours to complete, and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and coastline.
The trail starts in the village of Cala Gonone, which can be reached by car or bus from Baunei. The first part of the trail follows a paved road that leads to the entrance of the Selvaggio Blu trekking route. After about half an hour of walking, the road turns into a dirt path that winds its way through the hills and valleys of the Supramonte mountain range. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, with a few steep sections and rocky terrain that require a bit of scrambling.
As you make your way toward Cala Luna, you'll pass through a number of stunning natural landmarks, including the Grotta del Bue Marino, a series of sea caves that are home to a variety of marine life. You'll also see the towering cliffs of Punta Goloritzè and Punta Giradili, two of the most iconic landmarks in the Supramonte. Finally, after about two hours of hiking, you'll reach Cala Luna, a secluded beach with crystal-clear waters and soft white sand. Here, you can take a refreshing dip in the sea, relax on the beach, or explore the surrounding caves and cliffs.
