Journey Through Time
Your Edinburgh Castle adventure begins the moment you set foot into this awe-inspiring fortress that dominates the city's skyline. As you ascend the ancient cobblestone path, you are walking the same steps as many of Scotland's most legendary figures once did, including Mary Queen of Scots and Robert the Bruce. Interestingly, this 1100-year-old castle was once a royal residence, military garrison, prison, and treasury, making it a significant historical landmark.
Unveiling the Treasures of Scottish History
Once inside, a world of historical treasures awaits you. Your first stop could be the Crown Jewels exhibition, where you can admire the Honours of Scotland – the oldest Crown jewels in Britain. The Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs, is also on display, following its return to Scotland after 700 years! Moving on, you could explore the Great Hall with its impressive weaponry display, or the Royal Palace, which houses the beautifully restored Royal Apartments. Don't miss the opportunity to visit St. Margaret's Chapel, built by King David I in the 12th century.
The castle is also home to the National War Museum and the Scottish National War Memorial. Here, you'll uncover Scotland's gallant past, from the numerous wars of independence to the world wars. To end your visit, witness the firing of the One o'Clock Gun, a tradition dating back to 1861. This memorable experience at Edinburgh Castle will make you feel like you've stepped back in time, providing a vivid and fascinating glimpse into Scotland's past.
