  • If you are an art history enthusiast, this tour will definitely meet your expectations. The Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest is home to some of the most significant European artwork. Starting from the Classical Antiquity exhibition, a voyage through Greek, Etruscan, and Roman cultures, with a focus on the Mediterranean basin. Visitors will traverse the three ancient paths of European art: Hellas, Italy, and Rome, and explore the union of cultures in the ancient Mediterranean. The journey continues to the Ancient Egypt exhibition, which has been split into three large thematic units. The exhibition uses interactive tools to make the era's knowledge both comprehensive and scientifically correct. There's also the Chamber of Egyptian Secrets room, where guests can uncover exciting information about this ancient civilization.

    European Art Through the Eras

The museum's architecture is equally mesmerizing as its exhibitions. Reminiscent of a Romanesque basilica, the Román Csarnok is divided by huge columns and pillars. The rich painting decoration on the walls by Miksa Károly Reissmann and János Glaser comes to life with Christian iconography and Hungarian historical figures. This majestic setting is home to the Old Gallery, featuring the main eras of European art from 1250-1600 and 1600-1700 in chronological order. Besides these, the museum houses more than 100 masterpieces of European sculpture from 1350-1800. Furthermore, the museum's Graphic Collection is presented through special selections based on classical drawing and graphic themes, as well as contemporary artistic approaches.
