Visit one of Poland’s oldest museums, the Czartoryski Museum, and its Permanent Exhibitions among which the most well-known painting is the 500-year-old Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci.

One of the few portraits that the illustrious artist painted, this is a very valuable part of the Museum’s art collection and is a must-see exhibit. It came to be a part of Krakow history when, in 1800, Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski bought it as a present for his mother, Queen Isabella. It’s a huge treat to get to appreciate the painting’s many qualities and da Vinci’s high standard of artistry in a live setting. Some things to definitely observe include the eyes, the shading on the neck – giving the woman a 3D appearance – the blue of her dress, the pose, and more elements you can only experience first-hand. There’s a lot of mystery and intrigue about the backstory of the lady in the portrait – an educated noblewoman called Cecilia Gallerani.

Apart from this highlight of the Museum, explore the equally immersive Permanent exhibitions such as the Landscape with the Merciful Samaritan painting by Rembrandt van Rijn and other paintings, sculptures, and applied arts. There’s also a huge collection of souvenirs showcasing Polish history.
