Explore Munich on this charming and informative bike tour around the city, ending with a visit to the beautiful English Gardens.
Bike Tour
Along with your English or German-speaking guide, start your tour at the impressive Marienplatz, right in front of the new Town Hall. This is a wonderful start to your tour because this square holds a lot of the city’s history and culture in its government buildings, churches, and other institutions. You’ll see the gothic Old Town Hall, known for its 500 years of rich history, the Mariensäule – or Column of St Mary – with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary at the very top, the Rathaus Glockenspiel – the clock tower with gargoyles and turrets – just to name a few of the striking sights of this historic square. The Fischbrunnen or Fountain in the square is a popular meeting point.
As you bike your way through the city, you’ll catch sight of more gothic architectural attractions like the imposing cathedral – Frauenkirche – and expansive Maximilian Square with a statue of the revered ruler, King Max I Joseph.
Visit The English Gardens
Your bike tour’s last stop is at the English Gardens. Measuring 375 hectares, it’s supposed to be larger than even New York City’s Central Park! Enjoy the grassy lawns and streams and great views from the Monopteros, a temple-like round building built in 1836. At the heart of the Gardens, right on the banks of Kleinhesseloher Lake, is the Seehaus restaurant known for its delectable beer and cuisine.
