Why Trek To Cala Domestica
The Mines in the Blue coastal path in southern Sardinia is regarded as one of the most beautiful and popular paths on the island. It offers stunning views with many natural geological monuments that are worth admiring. You will find the beach of Cala Domestica nestled between the mountaintops of Pan di Zucchero and the Grand Canal. Through the junipers and rocky outcroppings that characterize this area, enjoy a wonderful sight of the Mediterranean Sea. In the end, a final aperitif will be served with typical Sardinian products, including sausages, cheese, and wine that will vary by season. This is a walk filled with history, nature, and archeology that anyone who enjoys trekking must experience!
What to Expect On Your Trek
The trek involves walking for 7-8 hours at a slow pace with short breaks and passes through coastal areas that are sometimes exposed. It's not recommended for those suffering from vertigo or on rainy days. There is a significant difference in altitude in the first part of the hike and at its beginning in the second part of the hike. To get to the most famous stretch for its scenic beauty and photos, one must climb up on the limestone carefully along some very exposed points, using some safety steel cables anchored to the rocks and an iron ladder. The route has no emergency exit points as it is almost completely not accessible by vehicles. It consists of constant ups and downs so you can access the Grand Canal in case of hot weather.
