Ever wonder how it felt to live in Cologne during the Roaring 20s? This new adventure exhibition takes you on an exciting journey through time, right into the history of the Cathedral City. With virtual reality glasses, discover Old Cologne and the lifestyle of yesteryears in a 360-degree view.
First Stop: The Cinema
The cinema was a ubiquitous and glamorous part of everyday life in the 1920s. As more and more movie theatres evolved, they were turned into massive movie palaces. Step into “Lichtspielhaus: and take a seat with The Fine Society, an entertaining short film shot in the style of that time, which describes the historical development of Cologne in the twenties.
Second Stop: The Hatter’s Store
Dive into the Hatter’s Store of the Riedschneider family with Tessa as you explore the glamorous fashion world of the twenties. There was a saying that the choice of hat said a lot about the wearer, as everyone wore a hat at that time. In the artfully decorated store, you will come across the art of wearing and making hats, as illustrated by the originals of the Diefenthal family. However, there's a twist in the tale- Tessa has an urgent special order. Will it arrive on time at Neumarkt, by Cologne’s streetcar driver, Pitter?
Third Stop: The VR- Ride
Travel to 1926, where you get to ride the first electric Cologne streetcar and experience the beauty of the city before its destruction in the Second World War. With your VR goggles, enjoy a panoramic view and discover iconic landmarks of the city, many of which have disappeared or are barely recognizable today. The surroundings of Cologne Cathedral at the time included the old main train station, the Schauspielhaus Theatre, The City Hall led by Konrad Adenauer, and more! End your trip at the colorful carnival at Neumarkt, with a special “Grand Finale”.
