Your Experience
Your Experience
Experience the lifestyle of the rich and famous 20th-century Catalans while listening to an interesting audio guide. Head to Casa Amatller, home of famous chocolatier Antoni Amatller and designed by renowned architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.
A Quick History
One of the most recognizable structures in the city, Casa Amatller was created employing modernism, an art nouveau design movement that originated in Catalonia. The house features four upper stories, a garden, and a ground floor that has been turned into a museum. The structure has 3 primary elements that reflect Amatller's passions – chocolate, vintage glassware, and photography.
What's in Store
Enter the apartments that Amatller and his daughter Teresa formerly called home by ascending the grand staircase at the entrance. Don't forget to look up as you enter and admire the stained-glass skylight! Enjoy the Romanesque altarpiece, a Bartolomé Bermejo Hispanic-Flemish table, and Baroque and Ramón Casas paintings. You'll also get a chance to see other cultural items like photos by Rogent, Lalique jewelry by Lalique, and glass collections with historical significance.
The Cherry on Top: An Audio Guide
Your digital audio guide, available via an app, will make sure you don't miss out on the best parts of exploring the opulent house. It will highlight all the culturally significant items in the house while also filling you in on why they became significant. If you use your imagination just right, you could even picture yourself walking around the casa during a 20th-century high society soiree with chatter about the art nouveau around you!
