Why watch The Lion King

Croon to Elton John and Tim Rice's tracks from the original film, including Circle of Life, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and Hakuna Matata with a cast of over 50 characters, live on stage. Directed by Julie Taymor, the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical, the show is renowned for its groundbreaking visual design and unique theatrical language. Featuring 232 puppets, ranging from delicate bird kites to the massive elephant that lumbers down the theater aisle, the widely popular production transports audiences to the African Savannah. A testament to the legacy of the iconic film, this legendary musical pulsates with diversity. Feel the quietest whisper to the most thunderous choral number in your bones as you relive the spellbinding power of The Lion King in London.

The story

Against the rhythms of Africa, a tale of love, loss, and redemption unfolds with the journey of a precious cub, Simba. As his idyllic childhood is forced to a stop with his father and revered king Mufasa’s untimely death, the young prince is thrust into a life of internal turmoil. While his treacherous uncle Scar gets his way, Simba abandons his identity for a new future, supported by his cheerful friends. But destiny speaks through the wisdom of Rafiki and his beloved Nala, calling him home to reclaim his father's legacy. Will the licit heir rise to his rightful throne?

The best musical experience ever - the costumes, the acting, the singing - there is nothing to put a finger on; I would see it again tomorrow!☺️

The design, costumes and actors were brilliant, an elephant comes onto the stage through the audience, the whole room is filled with flying birds, little Simba is a natural - best actor!!!), but the content and some of the songs that were added dragged on like chewing gum. Quite terrible: a permanently eating and alcohol-drinking audience that left the auditorium behind and made unrestrained audio and video recordings. No supervision to prohibit it. In Germany, but also at ABNA Voyage, for example, a visit to a musical is more respectful: you dress better, are quiet, only eat and drink during the breaks.

We recently saw The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, and it was absolutely incredible. From the breathtaking Circle of life opening to the stunning costumes and puppetry, every moment was visually spectacular. The cast delivered outstanding performances with Simba’s journey being especially moving and Scar perfectly menacing. Rafiki, Timon, and Pumbaa added humour and heart, making the experience even more special. The music was just as magical live as in the film. Whether you’re a fan of the movie or not, this is a must-see show for all ages!
