Why Watch Coming Clean
Why Watch Coming Clean
From the producers of the recent Olivier-nominated La Boheme comes the 35th anniversary production of Coming Clean. Kevin Elyot’s award-winning play broke ground by dealing with the topic of gay relationships back in 1982, when AIDS was not considered a serious issue in Britain. Moving, utterly relevant and still as timely, Coming Clean is an amazing story of love, relationships and the meaning of fidelity.
The Story
Set in North London, Coming Clean is the story of the seemingly-perfect couple, Tony and Greg. Although they love each other, they are in a polygamous, non-exclusive relationship, and both of them are open to one-night stands, as long as it doesn’t interfere with their own relationship. However, things take a turn when Tony begins to yearn for the stability of a monogamous relationship, unravelling past relationships and underlying tensions, leading to the realisation that maybe they aren’t on the same page after all.

Critics’ Reviews
”Though of its time, Coming Clean shows Elyot’s early promise: its themes stretch beyond the ‘gay play’ niche to address wider questions of fidelity.”
