Madeleine Mantock (Blithe Spirit, West End) plays Agnes Hathaway in the adaptation, which was adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Lolita Chakrabarti (Life of Pi) based on Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning book of the same name. The Story
Hamnet is the story about a couple in Stratford who have three children, twins Hamnet and Judith, and daughter Susanna. Plague takes the life of young Hamnet in 1596, aged eleven. The couple both deal with this terrible loss in their own way. Roughly four years later, William Shakespeare, the boy's father writes the play Hamlet (a name that is interchangeable at the time with name Hamnet).
