Why Watch Horrible Christmas
Why Watch Horrible Christmas
Witness history come alive the way you never imagined possible - Oliver Cromwell canceling Christmas? Henry VIII rapping about turkey? It's all here in gloriously gruesome detail. In typical Horrible Histories fashion, the minds behind the bestselling books and hit CBBC series, the production is filled to the brim with gripping facts and equally hysterical gags. The energetic Birmingham Stage Company brings the holiday spirit alive with catchy tunes, silly jokes, and plenty of audience participation. Directed by Birmingham Stage Company founder Neal Foster and based on the beloved books by Terry Deary, this theatrical treat may be more satisfying than that last piece of candy!
The Story
The night before Christmas, young Watson Williams develops an itch to rummage through his parents and ensure he gets just what he wished for. But along the decked halls, a sinister plot was getting out of hand! Sydney Claus, a typical grouchy Grinch dressed in red, was scheming to erase Christmas from history's pages. With detective Shirley Holmes as her guide, Watson must traverse time far and wide. From Charles Dickens penning tales by candlelight, to Puritans trying to dim Christmas' light. They'll feast with Henry VIII (mind your head!), and discover how St. Nicholas left his sled. But can the pair ensure that Christmas survives? In a historical race against the clock, this laughter riot will leave you wanting more!
Critics Reviews
This neatly designed show zips along, and it is performed with energy and a madcap charm by the hard-working cast.
This is good old fashioned silly fun, performed in the festive panto mould: lots of fart and bottom gags, a spot of audience participation, and a good old sing-a-long. Chuck in a few jokes for the adults and you have all the trappings of a great show.
