Why Watch Jitney
Why Watch Jitney
Set in the Pittsburgh Hill District of 1970s, Jitney explores the delicate relationship between eight men who live, love, and work in a racially segregated post-Vietnam America. Jim Becker and his drivers run the unlicensed Jitney cabs and take the people regular taxis ignore to places regular taxis refuse to go to. As they work to work to heal old wounds, new ones are created with the return of Becker's estranged son amid the city's encroaching plan of urban renewal.
Following a successful run at Leeds Playhouse, Jitney is coming to London's Old Vic Theatre for an extremely limited run. The powerful story comes from the multi-award-winning playwright August Wilson, made all the more impactful by Tinuke Craig's direction and an amazing cast.
