Why Watch Public Domain
Filled with plenty of dark humor, Public Domain offers a peek into how the internet, and social media, in particular, opened Pandora’s box in its attempt to promote the free flow of information. What began as a way of empowering lesser-heard voices has quickly morphed into a storm of unverifiable conspiracy theories, data misuse, and gross breaches of privacy. Public Domain captures these horrifying realities of the internet through brilliantly created characters and music. Francesca Forristal of Oddball fame joins the talented Jordan Paul Clarke to portray two teenage influencers Millie and Z. Millie is a health guru and ‘buddha bowls’ Millenial while Z is a nihilistic, generation Z influencer.
The show closely resembles the Netflix classic Black Mirror. Several of the scenes in the musical are directly derived from real YouTube vlogs, Instagram influencer stories, and Facebook posts. There is also a huge focus on Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony and other interviews. The show is directed by Adam Lenson and music by Joe and Nikki Davison.
Good For
Teens | Technology Buffs | Lovers of Dystopias
