Regarding the Show
In order to keep their high voices for opera parts, some 5,000 boys from poor families in 18th-century Italy were castrated every year. Marco, a young castrato with star potential, is the protagonist of Stiletto, which takes place in Venice, the opera center of Europe, during the winter of 1730–1731. Gioia, the gifted daughter of an African slave, crosses his path; unfortunately, social prejudices overwhelm her musical abilities. A moving story of love, ambition, and the pursuit of justice unfolds as their common love of music and their position as outsiders bring them together. Catch this thrilling world premiere at Charing Cross Theatre!
