Why You Should Watch The Fishermen
Why You Should Watch The Fishermen
The Fisherman, by Chigozie Obioma, grabbed the attention of the entire literary scene when it first came out in 2015. It was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2015. Obioma, who is thought to be one of the prime voices of Africa, has had his work easily recognized to be stage-worthy. This is exactly what has been done by none other than Gbolahan Obisesan, an award-winning playwright. He has devised a quick paced two-hander that is a striking parable of vengeance, brotherhood, and fate. Gbolahan Obisesan is a Nigerian British actor, writer, and director who was made Associate Director and Fellow at the Young Vic Genesis in 2015. His plays have won a Fringe First Award as well as a Jerwood Directors Award for ‘Best Play’. Moreover, he has also been nominated for an Olivier Award and an OffWestEnd Theatre Award. The Fisherman has had an immensely successful tour in the UK and has sold out twice at the Arcola Theatre. It is finally here at London’s Trafalgar Studios. Tickets for The Fisherman are as much in great demand as they are limited. This is definitely a show that you cannot miss watching.
