Why Watch The Unfriend
Why Watch The Unfriend
This dark comedy is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Mark Gatiss whose previous collaboration gave us the beloved Sherlock on BBC. The thrilling story comes to West End after an incredible sold-out run at The Chichester Festival Theatre. What’s more? The play features a star-studded ensemble including Sherlock’s Amanda Abbington, Inside No. 9’s Reece Shearsmith, and Frances Barber from Silk.
Watch a casual experience go horribly wrong in the lives of Pete and Debbie when their vacation friend, Elsa invites herself over for a prolonged visit. Things take a turn for the worse when Elsa’s past reveals some troubling information. Even when you feel the tingle of fear in your chest the play will have you laughing when the couple remains polite and kind to their murderous guest. This unique play has something for everyone, whether you enjoy thrillers, comedy, or crazy families.
The Story
During their vacation, Pete and Debbie unexpectedly meet Elsa, a lively widow from the USA. Despite Elsa's strong support for Trump and her conservative views, there is something oddly charming about the lonely woman. They agree to stay in touch, not giving it much thought, and return home to their usual lives. However, several months later, Elsa invites herself to stay with them.
Feeling cautious, Pete and Debbie decide to investigate their newfound friend online, believing it's better to be safe than sorry. Yet, what they uncover leaves them deeply disturbed, and they wish they had never looked into Elsa's background. Their anxiety peaks when they hear the dreaded sound of the doorbell.
What began as an innocent holiday encounter has now transformed into a tense game of cat and mouse. Pete and Debbie are determined to safeguard their children, but even in the face of a potentially dangerous situation, they can't help but maintain their politeness. After all, can one truly perish from embarrassment?
